Emotion is energy emotion. Each time an emotion rises, it demands more energy and Qi to supply that emotional energy. That’s why we feel drained after being emotional whether it be anger, sadness etc.
The point is not stopping emotions to rise, as it is part of nature and human nature, just as the earth experiences different temperatures and atmospheres, constantly in motion, constantly changing. It is never stagnant and still, the stillness of life marks the end of that life.
The key lies in immediate awareness (other than busy ‘feeling’ the emotion) and transforming that energy and knowing how to replenish back the spent energy and Qi.
How? Next time emotion rises for whatever reason, immediately internally (or ask aloud) ask the higher self, what is the best way to face/deal/adjust myself right now?
